There is no denying the underlying stigmas associated with people who have a substance use disorder, and how these stigmas impact the way in which our interactions are shaped with those who are struggling to overcome their disorder. Oftentimes in the emergency department these individuals experience extreme vulnerability and are faced with an array of emotions which can be amplified by how others interact with them.
