“Be kind to unkind people. They need it the most. ” -Unknown
Think about the last person that was unkind to you. So unkind that it stuck with you. That you couldn’t let it go. That it affected your day. That you still think about it, and it still makes you upset.
Whoever it is: a coworker, a patient, a family member, a friend; bring him or her to mind.
Now, create a scenario in which you feel kindness for that person. Was she unkind because she waited for hours in the waiting room? Was he rude because he is struggling with depression and family problems? Did she snap at you because she’s overwhelmed with worry about money, unsure how she’ll pay for rent, or food for her kids?
It doesn’t matter if it’s true. What matters is that you find a way to feel kindness towards those who are unkind. Because if you don’t, the only person that suffers is you.
WEEKLY WELLNESS
This week, try to create a story around an unkind person. It makes no difference if it’s true. Notice how feeling kindness towards others creates emotional ease for yourself.
