A Guide to Physician Immigration Services at USACS

At USACS, we understand the importance of attracting and retaining global medical talent. Backed by our team of immigration experts, we have created a robust portfolio of services—available at no cost to full-time physicians who are looking to join our practice. Our concierge experience sets the industry standard. We cover everything from initial visas to green cards and beyond. Partnering with trusted immigration attorneys, our cases are treated with the utmost compassion and confidence. In doing so, we build a practice that best reflects and serves our communities.

As Immigration Manager Hope Fry explains, “Our main objective is to provide 360-degree support. Our team is led by Chief of Inpatient Medicine, Dr. George Mitri, who has personally navigated the immigration system. Under his oversight, we ensure our physicians’ needs remain a central priority. There is no limit to the types of visas we sponsor, but common examples are cap-exempt H-1Bs as well as J1 waivers. We also sponsor TNs, O-1s, EADs, and Green Cards. For Green Cards, we manage applications via a variety of pathways, including the PERM process and National Interest Waiver (NIW). No matter the goal, we are here to build bridges at each stage of their journey.”

Our immigration service starts from the moment a candidate is identified. Our clinical recruiters narrow down eligible openings and schedule a consultation with our partner law firm. This consultation introduces the attorney to the physician and if preferred, the physician’s family. It is an excellent chance to explore the type of immigration paperwork needed for a physician’s site of interest and discuss next steps specific to the application. Above all, it is a platform for the physician to ask questions, voice concerns, and make sure they feel comfortable and confident moving forward.

“The opportunity to receive free, immediate legal counsel is unmatched,” Hope expresses. “This is especially true given our partner law firm subspecializes in healthcare immigration. Following that initial call, the physician decides whether to proceed to the interview phase. If all goes well, we then offer them a contract. Once signed, we gather documentation for the attorney to process the physician’s application and pay associated fees. While we don’t pay dependent fees, the law firm we work with will complete any necessary dependent filings. In addition, our physicians are promised Green Card sponsorship upfront. We begin the process as soon as their first shift, distinguishing us from groups that require probationary periods.”

Apart from the contract, our dual representation agreement is another key differentiator. This agreement differs from single representation in which a law firm works solely for the practice. In these arrangements, physicians have limited access to the law firm and may not speak directly to their attorney. In contrast, dual representation equips physicians with full access and transparent communication. The law firm upholds the best interests of both USACS and the physician to set them up for success. In simple terms, it emphasizes our dedication to our colleagues and reflects our people-driven philosophy.

“Our approach ultimately takes a huge weight off our physicians’ shoulders,” Hope affirms. “We not only fund the expenses, but we also have the expertise to handle the details on their behalf. We file paperwork. We apply for extensions. We monitor expirations. Plus, many of our leaders have experienced the immigration process firsthand. Their insight shapes a framework that is sensitive to the unique needs of everyone we work with. This facilitates a smooth transition and allows physicians to focus their time on our shared mission—to care for patients.”

Notably, the commitment of our immigration team does not stop after onboarding. They serve as a constant resource to turn to for guidance. Diligent in following immigration law and policy, we notify physicians of pertinent changes and address new challenges as they arise. Physicians never have to question who has their back or who is invested in their growth—we help them build a lifelong career at USACS.
